The change that Africa has witnessed in the past couple of years
has been remarkable and indeed very promising. Africa is standing up for
herself and moulding her future.

Africa’s success in the global market rests on deepening
international and regional integration which will help scale up demand for
supply and build value chains. There is therefore a need to integrate efforts
to strengthen trade and investment between African countries and the United
states.

From the 13th to the 15th of December, our Group Chairman
Tony Elumelu will be leading the UBA delegation at the U.S African Leaders Summit 2022. The Summit will
serve as demonstration of the United States’ enduring commitment to Africa and
will underscore the importance of U.S.-Africa relations and increased
cooperation on shared global priorities.

With a growing population of mainly young people, Africa
will shape the future- not just the future of the African people, but of the
world. Africa will make the difference in tackling the most urgent challenges
and seizing the opportunities we face like advancing trade and commercial ties
with key African countries to increase the U.S. and African prosperity.

We must put in place the necessary payment infrastructure
that will lead to the success of the largest free trade and the United Bank for
Africa (UBA) is a payments gateway to the continent leveraging its reach across
20 African countries and the major financial centres of London, Paris, New
York, and Dubai.

As the only African bank with a commercial deposit taking
presence in the United States. UBA provides corporate, commercial, SME and
consumer banking services to more than 35 million customers globally thereby
bringing financial services to Africans on the continent and in the diaspora. From
payment services to liquidity management solutions, UBA America offers a range
of treasury services to help in the financial planning and business functions
of organisations. As well as ensuring that customers thrive in the global
marketplace by through efficient and secure trade.

UBA America also offers an extensive, secure correspondent
banking network, while closely adhering to Know Your Customer best practices
and ensuring full transparency throughout the process.

are a lot of opportunities on the continent but capital is very difficult to

<span style="font-family: "Century Gothic",sans-serif;">It
has been quite an engaging week for #UBAAtUNGA as Group Chairman, Tony
Elumelu, amongst other things emphasized the need for partnerships for African
entrepreneurs. In his speech during the interview on CNN, he said “There are a
lot of other young Africans who are more energetic, equally intelligent if not
even more intelligent, but access to capital is very difficult to come by in
Africa that is why we believe that we need to extend our hands to others and
see how collectively we can make a difference on the continent”. We are working
with individuals and institutions like the UNCDF we think we can make a whole
world of difference.

<span style="font-family: "Century Gothic", sans-serif;">The
partnerships will benefit African entrepreneurs in terms of capital,
mentorship, business education to effectively manage their capital. This is why
UBA Group steadfastly adheres to its age long commitment to African entrepreneurs,
providing them with the much needed capital, specially created for every niche
including business mentorship and education through its SME Desk. The Chairman
added that “The global community must lend hands through partnerships to tackle
joblessness and its impact on mankind and humanity to ensure the security of
our future”.

<span style="font-family: "Century Gothic", sans-serif; text-align: justify;">According

see in the emerging markets is that even though there’s inflation and interest
rate go up and creates more problems, we also see a lot of opportunities on the
continent that more emerging markets. I think that prioritizing the young ones,
investing in their future will help us to create ultimately, sustainable
economic development for all.”

<span style="font-family: "Century Gothic", sans-serif;">According
to Ahunna Eziakonwa, Assistant Administration, UNDP, “What the Group Chairman
has started is a revolution. His philanthropy has opened the eyes of

how these collaborations open up a new world for these entrepreneurs”. With the

Whatever your business is, it is important for you to build a great relationship with your customers.

When you invest in building a great customer experience, your business stands to earn more sales, retain more customers, and create stronger relationships. All these will push your business forward in today’s competitive market.

We sit with Michelle Nwoga; Group Chief Experience Officer as she shares tips on customer Experience for Small Business.

1. Why Is a Great Customer Experience Important?

It builds trust. When your business gives exceptional customer service your company is building trust with that customer and is focused on strengthening the relationship and building loyalty. Every touch point offers you a unique opportunity to offer excellent customer experience and customers appreciate that. They must believe you will go out of your way to serve and solution for them.

2. How does small business have an edge over established organizations?

Small businesses have an opportunity to start with the customer in mind, unlike big corporations who are plagued with legacy issues and find it difficult to revamp or even overhaul their systems, process or people policies. They are only just realizing that every decision must start with putting their customer first. So small businesses have the unique opportunity to incorporate customer experience management as a key focus and driver of their business strategy. This way, they ensure that the right technology, solutions, products, data etc. is in place to serve their customers excellently.

3. What is an important thing for small business to pay attention to?

Data, data, data, this is key at the early stages. They have to consciously design their data management strategy, set up a customer insight and analytics team that will consistently measure, review and understand customer behavior. Insight is invaluable to any business, it tells you who your customers are, what they want and how you can improve your services or products to serve them better.

Delivering excellent Customer Experience does not happen by accident, it has to be a deliberate focus on the things that matter.

4. Is measurement important.

Yes. Absolutely!

You have to consistently measure and ensure CX is embedded in every nook and cranny of the organization. I often refer ti the CX team as an octopus, you MUST have your tentacles in every departments business. Have the right measures/KPIs to monitor performance and make sure that you are applying the right solutions for the organization.

5. We have seen organizations, over time re-evaluate their strategy to accommodate CX. How can small businesses avoid this?

Be deliberate. Understand who your customers are and what they want, don't be everything to everyone, you spread yourself too thin this way. Start with insight, this will drive your technology people and process decisions. Let your customer through feedback stir the ship, this will guide your strategy and deliver your revenue and growth objectives.

UBA Grouphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06995167439144713087noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527211876436873613.post-83300763436896641662021-08-10T20:48:00.002+01:002021-08-10T21:01:49.951+01:00#TheGoodLifeWithUBA: The Ultimate Checklist Before Changing Jobs.

Image: Pexels

It is not uncommon to seek a job change once or twice in one’s career journey.
Learning how
to save money is an important life lesson. It is by far the most important
first step where personal finance is concerned. You are pushing yourself to
change your financial habits for better. Though not an easy habit to maintain
the advantages of saying outweigh the disadvantages. Are there any
disadvantages to begin with?!

Here are 3
additional benefits on why you should save more money.

1.
Emergencies

Image: Google Images

One of the
best reasons to save money is to make sure you’re covered in the event of a
financial emergency. It is arguably the most important reason to save money.

We never
know when a financial emergency can spring up to cause chaos. This is why you
need an emergency funds because they are lifesavers!!

It takes
perseverance, to build up an emergency fund. It also takes discipline to only
use for true emergencies.

2. For bad
times

Image: Google Images

We know you
are thinking if this is the same as emergency funds. No, they aren’t.

While
emergency savings are meant to help you fix short term immediate problems,
saving for bad times takes you through more serious events in your life.

Loss of job
or a life threatening health condition are scenarios that could see your income
severely reduced or completely cut off.

You want to
have have a sizeable amount in saving to keep you till you get back on your
feet.

3. Avoiding
debt

Image: Pexels

Another
important reason why you should save is to make sure you avoid debt.

Save money
is to make sure you’re only spending on what you can afford. While interest
rates can seem small and appealing, you don’t want to find yourself in a pool
of debt.

Saving money
helps to make sure that you always have money for what you need.

At UBA Group, we are lucky to have employees whose love for the brand have seen them put in dedicated years in service to our customers.

In May 2001, one year out of the university, Yetunde Arowosafe, a graduate of Soil Science took up an appointment as a Teller in what she would later term a deviation from her original career plan to be an academician. This mother of two teenage daughters captures her 20 years in UBA as a full-on learning experience and growth platform.

Yetunde has served in various capacities in the bank including being a Customer Service Manager, Branch Operations Manager to mention a few. In her current role, she leads the Profit Centre Management team at the Nnamdi Azikiwe, Abuja business office.

A customer-1st Champion, Yetunde’s memories of her time in UBA is filled with the people she has come across through her journey here – from customers to staff.

Growth for Yetunde has come in different ways; each day with its own opportunity to discover new things. “When I started leading a team, she shared, “I realized I had a passion for people management and this led me to study for a master in Human Resources and employee relations and today I’m also studying for a PhD in Organizational Behaviour. Through all of these, I have managed to find a perfect balance with work, family and studying.”

When she is not working or studying, Yetunde enjoys reading. She shares her current read as; “Recruiting millennials: Exploring the impact of CSR involvement and pay signalling on organizational attractiveness”.

To young people navigating the path of work and life, Yetunde says “Find a balance, find a passion, be dedicated and find a job you enjoy and one that would support you all the way.”

#ThisIsUBA
UBA Grouphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06995167439144713087noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527211876436873613.post-44582031396407619462021-06-25T18:53:00.001+01:002021-06-27T19:23:16.153+01:00Effective Work-Life Balance for Entrepreneurs.

Work-life balance is the level of prioritization between the business and personal aspects of your entrepreneurial life.

As an entrepreneur, you already spend so much time planning, researching, marketing, selling, managing staff, managing finances. However, while this can be discouraging, remember that no amount is too small to be saved and the usefulness of saving can never be overemphasized. Ideally, 20% of our salary should be saved. You can still set a savings goal and reach it. The best trick to cultivating a great savings habit is always to find a motivation to save money for the future. Once this is done, you can consider the following tips we have highlighted to help you save more effectively.

1.Make A list:

Having a list will help you visualize very vividly what your new month expenditure will look like. Having made a list of your essential needs, the next step is to prioritize. Having a low income may be inhibiting and sometimes one may not achieve all they want. The trick is to prioritize and solve the most pressing needs while saving the others for later.

2.Set a Spending Goal:

When your 20% has been saved, and your essential needs taken care of, divide the remaining amount of money available by the number of weeks till the next pay day. This is typically 4 weeks. With this as a guide, set the resultant amount as your spending limit per week. Food spending is most likely to wreak havoc on your budget if it is not properly managed.

3.Set a Food Budget:

Within the first few weeks after payday, there is usually an overwhelming temptation to treat yourself to a sumptuous meal at a cozy restaurant. When this happens twice or thrice, setting a sustainable food budget till the end of the month becomes almost impossible. It is advisable to look for means through which you can cut your restaurant spending and the most effective one is through home meal planning.

4.Take Advantage of Fee Free Savings Accounts:

Typically, the bank deducts several fees from your savings as charges for different purposes. However, fee free accounts still exist. As a low-income earner, it is important to create and operate these types of bank accounts to enable you have all the funds you can available to you.

5.Be Resourceful:

While saving on a low income is a very tough challenge, a hard truth is, that low paying job may not be around forever. In this case, being resourceful is a lifeline. Do not settle. Keep looking for a better paying or multi streams of income to widen your financial capability. This may come with a “time” challenge. Uhn huh! This implies that you may not have as much time to play with as those who earn higher. Spend your free time searching for a better job or an alternative stream of income.

6.Reduce Entertainment Cost:

We all know the saying that “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Well in this case, Jack does not have so much money and time to spend on playing. That notwithstanding, some sort of entertainment is mandatory for a proper work-life balance. Three very useful tips here are to find free entertainment opportunities, very affordable entertainment or create an entertaining opportunity for yourself at home.

Bottom line is, cultivating a fantastic saving habit with a low income is very possible. However, it requires more determination and a higher level of discipline. We hope these tips have helped you on your journey to financial freedom.

UBA Grouphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06995167439144713087noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527211876436873613.post-6842238610598429512021-03-28T12:37:00.000+01:002021-03-28T12:37:02.603+01:00Nzulezo, The Village On A River

Nzulezo is a village located near the village of Beyin, 90 kilometers west of Takoradi, in the Jomoro District in the Western Region of Ghana.

Nzulezu overlooks Lake Tadane, and is entirely made up of stilts and platforms. They make money by providing services that people want and which would be extraordinarily expensive to procure without banks.

And this is why over the last sixteen years the presence of UBA in Ghana’s banking industry has galvanized banking onto a higher performance level; where competition and innovation in responding to the needs of the customer have become the driving force of the industry.

UBA's world class customer driven innovations have earned it the confidence of the Ghanaian public; as it continues to provide banking services to a wide variety of customers.

The objective of UBA Ghana is to democratize banking with excellent customer driven solutions. UBA Ghana's unique product developments also saw the introduction of Africash, which is an instant money transfer service across Africa.

Also UBA Ghana’s virtual Artificial Intelligence BOT, LEO, has in no small way revolutionised banking in the country especially with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Africa's global bank, UBA Ghana has developed a branch footprint and delivery network that has ensured that the bank's services are always within the reach of valued customers. In line with the bank’s positioning statement and strategic intent, UBA Ghana has a footprint of 28 fully networked branches and over 60 ATM's spread across Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Tarkwa, Tamale, Takoradi, Kumasi, Tarkwa and Aflao.

Aside its core banking services, the bank has responsibly and significantly contributed to the economic growth of Ghana not only by paying taxes but has also positioned itself as a brand that supports education and implemented various interventions to propel its support for education.

UBA Group being one of the leading banks in Africa sees development to be people centred. This is one of the reasons why UBA Ghana continues to boost its corporate social responsibilities by rolling out initiatives tied to the three core values of Enterprise, Excellence and Execution (3 EEEs).

UBA Ghana through the UBA Foundation has supported many youths through personal projects within the communities of operation with “Each One Teach One” project- a programme designed for various business offices to engage their operational areas with entrepreneurial or vocational skills.

This activity includes reading and donation of books; entrepreneurial and financial inclusion skills; first-aid training; photography skills training; make-up skills training; gardening and landscaping skills among others.

This again forms part of the Foundation’s effort to ensure employees volunteer towards a cause they are passionate about for better fulfilment, team-building, and boosting employee-morale as contribute to society.

Another ground-breaking Idea, the UBA Food Bank offers members of the Executive Management to join staff share food, water and assorted drinks to the less privileged.

As part of its Read Africa project, UBA Ghana distribute books by African writers to various schools and community libraries. It is therefore important that the company culture is shaped in such a way that employees always feel at home within and outside the office building. A great place to work isn’t just about a beautiful space with the right amount of natural light, amazing green plants to calm the senses and comfortable aesthetic furniture to make work fun- these are essential elements. What makes a great place to work is the right work culture and of course, its people.

In January 1999 when Funmi Oluyimika Akanbi started her journey with United Bank for Africa, she did not expect that she would go on to stay for fifteen years before finally closing the curtain to pursue a greater passion- motherhood.

she shares her remarkable experience in a Facebook post below;

January 24, 1999.

Just realised I started my banking career on this day 21 years ago with Standard Trust Bank (now UBA). I chose to resign in 2016 after 15 years to start a family; and I would take that decision again if I had to; because today, I have the most adorable, super intelligent 2yrs+ twins to show for it, and the role of mom...best job title ever!

As I reflect, I am super grateful to God for the opportunities I had on the job, the mentorship, sometimes chastisement (lol), financial support for my MBA in England, from my then CEO Tony O. Elumelu, who believed so much in me and kept placing challenging roles before me, making me push the envelope. TOE as we call him successfully eradicated 'it's not possible' from my dictionary in the early years and replacing it with the 'can do spirit' (now y'all know where my resilience and go-getter attitude comes from).

I particularly treasure the people I met and worked with in the course of the job in my different roles in Operations, Customer Service, Brand Management & Communications, HR, Corporate Banking and Retail Banking. I still keep a lot of those relationships today as great friends.

I grew from that fresh-faced shy 26year old who couldn't look at anyone in the eye, to a senior management staff talking to a full room of 150 Executive Directors and Top Management staff at the Amphitheatre; The multimillion UBA Change Transformation project I championed that took me to 16 African countries where UBA was represented at the time in 2010.

Leaving a footprint of being pivotal to the redefinition of the UBA Core Values, H.E.I.R. as we have it today, is one I am especially proud of. Here's to the next 20 years of me impacting the next generation. I have been given much, it's my turn to repay the favour to the ones coming after me.

A grateful heart never forgets.

Oh and by the way I met my husband in UBA, the month he relocated from the US to take up a job with the Bank (story for another day )

To God alone be all the Glory!

For a lot of our employees; current and past, Funmi’s experience is relatable. With over 70 years of doing business, our diverse workforce remains our greatest investments even as we drive a culture of enterprise, excellence, execution for continued growth. Talking about money can be uncomfortable, the thought of sitting down with your significant other is a dreadful thought but your relationship is about to take a new turn and this conversation needs to be had. Having money conversations with your significant other will not only bring you two closer but will help you achieve your joint-financial goals.

Since Money is a very delicate subject we suggest you approach it delicately. If you haven’t had it yet, this season is a good time to have that conversation.

While there are many aspects to this conversation, we are highlighting three important questions to ask your significant other.

What Are Your Long Term Financial Goals?

Here’s the thing about this question, you get an insight to your significant other’s financial priorities without making them feel uncomfortable.

Everyone has long term goals and though these goals may seem far, it’s completely ok to have conversations about them. These goals might include things like going back to school, vacation plans, retirement plans, home ownership etc. but whatever they are, it’s good to know what your significant other thinks about their financial future.

How Much Debt Do You Carry?

Debt is an incredible burden. Majority of adults carry some loan debt so it’s likely that your significant other has some.

Find out how much debt they have and why. Also ask for details on how they’re paying it off. If this is a long-term repayment situation, it will almost certainly affect your life together and while having debt isn’t quite the deal breaker, it’s best to know how much debt someone has prior to joining your lives together.

If this isn’t a problem, go ahead and decide as a unit how to confront each person’s debt load.

Spending Priorities & Budgeting

You’ve talked about goals and debts, now is the time to get to the numbers part. Budgeting is an important part of the conversation that should not be left out. This is the one where you talk all things finances.

You want to know if you will you be joining finances and will have a joint account for expenses or if you will have separate finances. If you will be joining finances, you’ll want to know how much each person can spend without discussing it with the other person. In summary, it is important that both members are comfortable with the spending priorities and budgeting decisions.

In conclusion, financial compatibility will play a huge role in the success of your relationship. Identifying your money incompatibilities before a life-long commitment is very important and can save a lot of future pain and heartache.

UBA Grouphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06995167439144713087noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527211876436873613.post-11892453100738277232021-02-08T13:00:00.001+01:002021-02-09T08:20:17.553+01:00A Different Kind of LoveWithout a doubt, 2020 changed everything leaving us exposed and vulnerable.

The pandemic challenged all of us, showing us that life can change in the most unexpected ways, leaving us with no time to prepare. It has also taught us that regardless of race or color, are all connected.
Another important aspect of the human life that was changed by the pandemic is the way we now see relationships and human interactions.

In the past, nurturing human relationships required time- physical time but this isn’t the case anymore as the dynamics of relationships have changed. In no time we had to learn the urgent need to priorities our relationships. We learnt patience and we had to understand people’s need for personal space. We have learnt to pay more attention and to know now the importance of being a listening ear. We also learnt the importance of sharing moments and wins no matter how little. Most importantly, we have come to realize that a simple “hope you are doing ok’ text can make a big difference.

In a nutshell, thanks to the pandemic, there has been an enormous display of human empathy and we are here for it.

This month, the love month, let us take time to reflect and look at the friendships that have blossomed and are stronger.

To say thank you to the friends who regularly checked on us, sharing in our grief and in our joys.
