Elumelu To Lead Speakers At Cross-Continental Forum


Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Mr Tony Elumelu, would be the keynote speaker at an online cross-continental hackathon organised by the government of Estonia and the African Union. 

The hackathon with the theme: “EU Africa, The Post Crisis Journey” is organised with the support of Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland and the European Investment Bank and is billed to hold from 10 to 13 December 2020. 

Nearly 2000 people from 93 countries have suggested about 700 ideas to solve social and economic problems in Africa along the 11 tracks of the hackathon. The organizer of the hackathon, Mari Hanikat of Garage48 said: “We have received many inspiring stories of participants who have overcome personal hardship and reinvented their own destinies while contributing to their communities. We are thrilled to empower these people by bringing together intercontinental teams under the guidance of our brilliant mentors.” 

The hackathon will be accompanied by a public online conference with an impressive line-up of speakers. Heads of states, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, unicorn builders and social activists will discuss the 11 topics of the hackathon.


Joining Tony Elumelu in the opening panel on Thursday, 10th December at 17(GMT + 2) are the President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid and the president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.

The chairman of UBA, through the TEF has been a leading voice on entrepreneurship in Africa, empowering women and men across the continent, catalysing economic growth, driving  poverty eradication and ensuring job creation.
