UBA Ghana Earns Confidence of Ghanaians Through Customer Driven Innovations

Banks are intrinsically social institutions. They make money by providing services that people want and which would be extraordinarily expensive to procure without banks.

And this is why over the last sixteen years the presence of UBA in Ghana’s banking industry has galvanized banking onto a higher performance level; where competition and innovation in responding to the needs of the customer have become the driving force of the industry.

The objective of UBA Ghana is to democratize banking with excellent customer driven solutions. The bank seeks to bring financial services to a majority of the Ghanaian populace and make it a basic entitlement for all. 

UBA Ghana has been at the forefront of many product innovation within the Ghanaian banking landscape; including the revolutionary Cashless Account which permits customers to open accounts without an initial deposit which was the first of its kind in Ghana. 

The bank also pioneered Wise Alert and SMS/E-mail alert service which enables delivery of account related information, products and services notification in real-time to UBA customers' mobile phones and email accounts. UBA Ghana's unique product developments also saw the introduction of Africash, which is an instant money transfer service across Africa.

Also UBA Ghana’s virtual Artificial Intelligence BOT, LEO, has in no small way revolutionised banking in the country especially with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Africa's global bank, UBA Ghana has developed a branch footprint and delivery network that has ensured that the bank's services are always within the reach of valued customers. In line with the bank’s positioning statement and strategic intent, UBA Ghana has a footprint of 28 fully networked branches and over 60 ATM's spread across Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Tarkwa, Tamale, Takoradi, Kumasi, Tarkwa and Aflao.

Aside its core banking services, the bank has responsibly and significantly contributed to the economic growth of Ghana not only by paying taxes but has also positioned itself as a brand that supports education and implemented various interventions to propel its support for education. 

UBA Group being one of the leading banks in Africa sees development to be people centred. This is one of the reasons why UBA Ghana continues to boost its corporate social responsibilities by rolling out initiatives tied to the three core values of Enterprise, Excellence and Execution (3 EEEs). 

UBA Ghana through the UBA Foundation has supported many youths through personal projects within the communities of operation with “Each One Teach One” project- a programme designed for various business offices to engage their operational areas with entrepreneurial or vocational skills. 

This activity includes reading and donation of books; entrepreneurial and financial inclusion skills; first-aid training; photography skills training; make-up skills training; gardening and landscaping skills among others. 

This again forms part of the Foundation’s effort to ensure employees volunteer towards a cause they are passionate about for better fulfilment, team-building, and boosting employee-morale as contribute to society.

Another ground-breaking Idea, the UBA Food Bank offers members of the Executive Management to join staff share food, water and assorted drinks to the less privileged. 

As part of its Read Africa project, UBA Ghana distribute books by African writers to various schools and community libraries. In total, over ten thousand books have been distributed to various beneficiary institutions. 

UBA Ghana’s National Essay Competition for the past two years 2019 and 2020 edition recorded the highest number of entries since inception with entries coming from the remote regions of Ghana. For the 2020 edition, the bank has awarded grants worth $10,000 to the three top winners and also given laptops to all 10 finalists of the competition.

At UBA, the well-being of our valued staff is a top priority, hence our once a month Jogging-to-Bond has continuously strengthened staff social bonding to ensure staff come together all around the country to exercise, stay healthy and build up relationships. 

UBA Ghana was recognized as the best company in ‘Youth Empowerment Programme’. This signifies that the bank is on the right track in making impact in people lives. This honour was made possible through some life transforming initiatives including, the Read Africa Project, UBA National Essay Competition among others
